August Bank Holiday is nearly upon us and there is plenty going on on the Island, with something for everyone. Here is our guide to Bank Holiday events – what’s on and where to go on the Isle of Wight:
For the family
Visit the 44th Island Steam Show at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. For many this is the Bank Holiday event. Expect over 120 vintage vehicles, live music, exciting traction engines plus entertainment for all the family. A Sheep Show, Daredevil riding, traditional funfair and of course, a ride through the Island’s stunning countryside on a beautiful steam train.
For some culture
Binnel Studios open’s its doors to the public very rarely. So if the idea of excellent local art in one of the Island’s most rugged, unique and beautiful locations floats your boat, then make sure to go. There are eight artists in residence and the studios are open Saturday, Sunday and Monday between 11am and 4pm.
For music and scooters
Some Bank Holiday events are classics. Ryde is a sight to behold when over 5000 scooters descend to the town to celebrate the International Scooter Rally Weekend. When you have had enough of the two stroke, head to The Balcony Bars to hear music of the era. Enjoy the likes of The Small Fakers, The Jam’d and Angelo Starr & The Team.
For the morning after the night before
If your head is banging or you could do with a good detox, look no further than The Healing Festival taking part at Ventnor Botanic Garden. With over 40 exhibitors the weekend is full of therapies, classes and workshops. With qualified therapists all there to help, explain, inspire, teach and heal, and to help you to have a relaxing and chilled out weekend. Aside from the healing classes, workshops and therapies, there will also be loads of other fun stuff all day long.
For the fit and active
The Isle of Wight Cycling Festival returns for 2018. The launch weekend is centrally located at Arreton Barns, featuring a retail village, rides suitable for all ages and abilities. Enjoy local cuisine, entertainment and the SpyVelo CX Cup, the free-to-enter Cycle Isle Trax Kids Cup. Also try coaching sessions and the mighty Hills MTB event.
