February Half Term always seems to come around so quickly after the Christmas holidays an it can be hard to think of how best to keep the kids entertained. Thankfully there is plenty to do here on the Isle of Wight. Be prepared and check out the following events:
Spirit of the Orient at Robin Hill
This award-winning event returns for 2019. Celebrating the Chinese New Year (it’s year of the pig in case you’re wondering). From 6-10pm between 15th and 23rd February, a dazzling fusion of sound, colour, illuminations and oriental flavours will mark the global event amid ancient, 88-acre woodlands, capturing the spirit of one of the world’smost popular celebrations. Featuring impressive new light exhibits, a 12-metre long dragon procession, new interactive woodland light shows, traditional lion dances, Chinese street food, entertainment and crafts, the festival marks the year of the Earth Pig and the traditional Chinese concept of ‘Wu Xing’.
Victorian Fun & Games at Osborne
Experience a range of fun and games and pastimes played by children in the Victorian era. Learn all about how the royal children would have lived and played at their holiday home of Osborne.
The Big Brick Build Off at Tapnell Farm Park
Tapnell Farm Park presents its first ever Duplo Brick building competition. Having seen some absolute masterpieces come out of the new Construction Corner staff at the farm thought it was time they showcased some of your talents. The competition will run from 11am until 4pm in the Farm Park Café extension. The theme for the first year will be ‘THE FARM’ – So get your thinking caps on and have a practice at home.
National Trust Compton Family Outing at Compton Car Park
As the tide falls, families looking for a nature adventure can join the National Trust ranger and stride out along the beach before heading up towards the downs. Along the way we’ll help you find dinosaur foot casts and other fossils, splash in the waves, discover our farm animals and then head back as the sun begins to sink towards the horizon. We’ll explain how we are changing the type of farming so that it will become a landscape that will one day support much more coastal wildlife. Booking essential on 01983 741020. Meet at Compton Bay car park near Hanover Point (PO30 4HB, SZ 378 841). Dogs on leads welcome.
